This ESPN 30 for 30 film is about Marcus Dupree. After showing his incredible athletic talent as a running back in the NCAA for Oklahoma (for example, in one game he gained 245 yards on 19 carries and not even a full game worth of work), Dupree was seriously concussed (you can see the helmet-to-helmet hit), when home to Mississippi the next day, and although he was scheduled to return to Oklahoma, he never did. The film examines Dupree’s potential, his burn out, and his eventual redemption. Therefore, it doesn’t focus on his concussion, but knowing what is known now about concussions, I would think that the effects of his concussion at least indirectly led to his ‘disappearance’.

Sidney Crosby’s concussion has definitely increased the spectre of concussions in Canada. The Globe and Mail has been addressing the issue of concussions in sports for a while now. Maybe now, attention will truly be paid. Good job Globe and Mail.
