Detour is about my cycling trip across Canada (Vancouver, BC to St. John’s, NL). Using my journal entries for each of the 66 days, I write about the things we saw, the people we met, the long, exhausting, tough days on the bike, and the incredible experience it was! Then, I write about my severe brain injury the following year and my ongoing recovery.
Detour is about about these important parts of my life, and I am very proud of each! Recovering from, and living with a brain injury is a very difficult experience, and as every brain injury is unique, few people, if any, can relate and trying to convey that experience can at times seem futile. Cycling across Canada with two of your closest friends is a tough. It is tiring. It is something to be proud of. We did it for the stories, and we were rewarded. And exhausted.
The first experience was chosen, tiring, daunting, exhilarating, and an amazing adventure! The next was/is accidental, painful, exhausting, frustrating, peaceful, eye-opening, and is truly life-changing. I wouldn’t want to change a thing.
