Detour -Cycling, coma, and living with a brain injury is now free!
Simply follow the link and download it as a PDF, EPUB (iPhones and Tablets), or MOBI (Kindle).
You can download the free Leanpub App here so you can read Detour anywhere!
In short, Detour chronicles my 66-day cycling trip across Canada (from Vancouver, BC to St. John’s, NL) in the summer of 2002, with my daily journal entries from each of the 66 days (the Leanpub App would be very useful for anyone riding across Canada with their iPhone!). I then tell the story of my 2003 brain injury, coma, rehabilitation and on-going recovery. I hope people who’ve been brain injured, their family and friends, find this helpful.
*Ironically, Leanpub is based in Victoria, BC, but we didn’t start our cycling trip (in Part One) on Vancouver Island, so we missed Victoria. Appropriately, however, Victoria is where I had my bike crash and resulting severe brain injury in the summer of 2003. Told in Part Two.
Thank you very much to Leanpub for giving me an outlet to tell my story!
I hope you enjoy reading it, and I hope you learn about brain injury, what it means, the importance of friends and family, and how brain injury can happen to anyone. More than that, I hope it comes across as optimistic! I do not regret the injury. It is part of my life, and I’m very fortunate to have the life I do!
